The Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art at Bentonville, Arkansas has welcomed over 100,000 visitors since opening in November of 2010. The philanthropic efforts of Wal-Mart Heiress Alice Walton brought the museum to northwest Arkansas, and it is a showcase for outstanding American artwork from the Colonial Period through the 20th Century.
Included in the collection on display at Crystal Bridges are works by such noted artists as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Norman Rockwell, Thomas Hart Benton, Charles Russell, and Edward Hopper.
The artwork is housed in a building designed by noted architect Moshe Safdie. The gift shop was designed by noted Arkansas architect Marlon Blackwell. The galleries of Crystal Bridges are in a beautiful natural setting with walking trails, and are connected to the walking trails of the adjacent Compton Gardens. Sculpture from the Crystal Bridges collection is found in locations along the walking trails.
Crystal Bridges also includes a library for those interested in learning more about American Art, as well as a restaurant. The museum staff offer guided tours, and an education program about art is open to all. Groups are welcome to tour, and meeting rooms are available for rent for special functions. For additional information, check the museum Website: www.CrystalBridges.org.
