General Jo Shelby Camp No. 1414 in Harrison, Arkansas on June 7, 1983 and became its first commander. In the same year, he joined The
Military Order of Stars and Bars and chartered a Chapter in Harrison in 1984 and served as Commander and later Adjutant, 1988-2002. He
became a life member July 8, 1985. He has received many awards from both organizations as well as other civic organizations.
Troy has been interested in history since an early age and has much love for his Arkansas and Southern heritage. His interest particularly lies in
the War Between the States era of 1861-1865. He feels the present and future generations should know of the deeds of these heroic men who
sacrificed their all for their beliefs.
He rewrote and edited "Memoirs of Captain
J.M. Bailey."
In addition to writing, Troy is very involved in his community, serves on the Boone County Historical Society Museum Board of Directors,
participates in live reinactments, and has been a Rotarian for many years.
